COURSE OUTCOMES

This unit of competency enables participants to remove non-friable asbestos containing material (ACM). The unit includes preparing, containing and removing non-friable ACM, and includes knowledge of decontamination and disposal requirements.

The aim of this course is to enable participants to carry out asbestos removal work safely and without risk to their own health or the health of others

ABOUT THIS COURSE

This course is designed for persons involved in removing more than 10 sq. mts  of non-friable (bonded) asbestos.

  • Introduction to asbestos ( history and health risks )
  • Prepare for asbestos removal
  • Prepare asbestos removal area and removal site
  • Isolate removal site
  • Carry out asbestos removal process
  • Carry out decontamination process
  • Clean-up worksite
  • Contribute to and use documentation in line with regulatory requirements.

TRAINING MATERIALS

Participants will receive all asbestos related material required, including the Codes of Practice for the Safe Removal and management of Asbestos.

All PPE is provided (including respirators, gloves, disposable overalls, safety glasses, etc) however candidates must wear suitable footwear and clothing for the construction industry.

ASSESSMENT

Participants will be required to complete a written and practical assessment.

PRE-REQUISITES

You must be at least 18 years of age to participate in this course. You must have completed a white card CPCCOHS1001A Work Safely in the Construction Industry (construction induction) or CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry, before attending training for this unit.

Participants must have a suitable level of physical fitness to remove sheeting, manually remove bagged/ wrapped products, use basic hand tools and set up a work area using barriers and plastic sheeting

Participants also must have a basic level of English literacy skills (reading and writing) to enable them to complete a written assessment.

WILL I GET MY LICENCE AT THE END OF THIS COURSE?

Completing these units will not provide a licence to remove asbestos. Certified workers cannot apply for a licence UNLESS they meet the criteria set out by Workplace Health and Safety Queensland. DELIVERY OPTIONS

The course is usually delivered in a face-to-face format at Axiom’s training rooms and includes extensive practical assessments over a full day period. On-site training can be provided if suitable areas are available to complete practical assessments.
